The Russian name "Daria" (also "Darya") comes from the Slavic word "Dar," which means "Gift," and has nothing to do with the Greek or Persian name, which only sound similar phonetically ;-)
It's a beautiful name, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.

Dasha is the short form of my name. And yes, there are forms like Dashechka, Daryushka and also Dashulya, Dashenka. By the way, we in Russia think that Darina and Darya are different names. Some people named Darina ask others to not call them Dasha.
Darya Vladimirovna Anenkova is a Russian Group rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2014 Youth Olympic Group all-around champion. Early in her career, Anenkova competed as an individual gymnast. She won the all-around silver medal behind compatriot Aleksandra Soldatova at the 2012 Gymnastik Schmiden International Tournament. In 2013, Anenkova began competing with the Russian Group.

DARYA is a little bit harsh and quite common, I think DERYA is unique, beautiful and has better meaning. It means sea, ocean in Turkish.
