I love the name Damon! It's dark & unique & handsome! I love anything dark & unusual, so the name Damon being so close to the word Demon doesn't bother me at all. I would use the nickname Dame.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned author Damon Runyon, some of whose short stories are the basis for the musical Guys and Dolls. (His full name was Alfred Damon Runyon.)
I love the name Damon. I like it because it’s dark & I'm a Halloween lover! I also feel like it’s a hipster name & hipster names get me EVERYTIME! Lol! I also like the nickname Dame.
Damon, derivation of Semetic and Aramaic D'Amun (Spirit, essence or likeness) "of God", in old texts used for Middle eastern use of Adam, as made in the essence of Anun or Amun-Ra- the light of the World, the God associated with the sun; this form fell out of use in Babylon when El or YWHW; before the one God temples and buildings were dedicated to the High Gods of the Sun and the womb of the world, and many Canaanite buildings had several Gods in the Canaanite Pantheon. One of Amun and Sophia's offspring became popular in much of Africa and Middle East known as Ba'El or Bael Marduke; in the return from Babylon various versions and names of Canaanite Gods fell out of use.

Bias warning: My name is Damon James.I am 46 years old (and funnily enough today is my birthday!). I have always really liked my name. Fancied myself somewhat unusual (as everybody does!) but at least I had a distinctive name to heighten the pretense :)I was only teased at school inasmuch as every kid cops it, but the kids could never really latch onto the name as a bullying handle. Even "demon" ran out of steam very quickly, and nothing hurtful ever stuck, or even made an impression. In Australia as a young man I got "Damo" a lot. Now I'm middle aged I get Big D (I'm 6'4" tall).I get occasional mis-spellings and mis-hearings - of "Damien", "Darren" and even "Duncan" once or twice. As a kid my mum was always correcting people who said "daymen" to "day-mon". I think she got a little kick out of it. Likewise, I have to spell my name out a lot, but the secret truth is I don't mind because every time I do I feel a little bit unique!Over time I've had many people tell me they love the name, and never any who said otherwise. It's a name that somehow seems to resonate better with my academic & business friends than the ones I made (i.e. not many) working on underground mines & oil rigs in earlier days.Anyway, just my two cents worth...
Damon is a strong, dark, mysterious name for a guy... with an edge. I like it.

The name Da'Mon is an African American form of Damon. It is pronounced Day Mon. It is a broken up version of Damon with an added accent.

I can't help but think of Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries when I hear this name. Which is a good thing, since he's my favorite character from the series.

Well I do really like this name. Damon was one of the main character in Vampire Diaries by L.J Smith. And whenever I heard this name I do remember the character, and it reflects as dangerously hunk guy look. A very awesome name it is.
Damon Atkinson is an American drummer, well known in the music community for drumming in bands such as Hey Mercedes and Braid. I don't really care for this name. I like Damien better.
Much better than Damian. The name reminds me of Damon Albarn from Blur, who later kicked off the Gorillaz project, and I can't say I like him much. The name also reminds me of Damon Gough, also known as Badly Drawn Boy, whose music is sort of nicety-nice, but nothing earth-shatteringly brilliant or memorable by a long shot. This is an okay name that sounds quite safe. Like the name of relatively sane people.

Personally I love this name! I would name my son Damon, except I know how others might mock him. However I think it would make a wonderful middle name. (I especially love the story about him and Pythias).
The name Damon is not, as sometimes thought, derived from the German word Dämon, which is the German word for demon, with etymological origins in the meaning spirit and genius. The pronunciations are similar, however.
the name Damon has more meanings than were given, including; day, constant tame and domesticated, and loyal friend. I think it also has a meaning related to "spirit" but I'm not totally sure.
