Could it be that the name "Damhnait" would have been affected by the feast of Samhain or Shamhain? The vocals in the word are very similar and even occur in identical order!
Just a quick comment on the Samhain comment. The pronunciation of Samhain is usually Sow-en (not Sam-hayn) and is the Old Irish word for the Celtic month (our November). Also it comes from the Old Irish words for "Summer" and "sunset", basically Summer's End. Also a Neo-Pagan Sabbat. Anyway, I don't think *personally* that there is anything linking the two, especially pronunciation. But anyway, very neat name, though I think of Grandma's love seat that she called a davonet.
