Meaning & History
Means "knowing one", from Greek ἐδάην (edaen) (via the unattested present form *dao) meaning "to learn, know, teach". This was the name of an Oceanid in Greek mythology, associated with the Eleusinian mysteries. It was also used as an epithet for various goddesses, including Persephone.
