Meaning & History
Means "crowned" in Spanish, taken from the titles of the Virgin Mary Nuestra Señora de la Coronada and Virgen de la Coronada, meaning "Our Lady of the Crowned" and "The Virgin of the Crowned", respectively. Also compare Corona, Incoronata. She is the patron saint of Villafranca de los Barros in the western province of Badajoz (also declared the patroness of the vineyards in 2012 by the then archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz, Santiago García Aracil) and is also venerated at the hermitage in Calañas in the Andalusian province of Huelva. This name is also used in other Spanish-speaking countries, mostly in Central America.
