I love old French names like this one!
"Corneille" is sort of an umbrella term used for birds from the corvus genus (that is, crows, ravens, magpies, etc) in French, or at least in the Canadian French that I know.
Put more simply, it's what you'd call a dark-coloured bird if you're not sure what it is.There's also a fairly popular musician (in French Canada) named Corneille.
This name is unisex in France; though most often found on males, it was also used for females - especially several decades ago.
