Clíona is pronounced CLEE-na. The "o" is silent. I don't like that pronunciation, as it sounds like someone saying "cleaner" in an English accent. If you want CLEE-oh-na, which I adore, it would be spelt Clióna. It brings the pronunciation more in line with the original name Clíodhna, and you'd get Clio as a nickname. And it sounds similar other awesome names like Leona, Fiona and Ilona. I love Clióna!

I love this name. It sounds gorgeous and sophisticated, and you'd get Clio as a nickname. I prefer this spelling to Clíodhna. Clíona looks neater and prettier in my opinion.

This is the name of a character in author Maeve Binchy's critically acclaimed novel "The Glass Lake". In the book, Cliona "Clio" Kelly is the haughty friend of heroine Katherine "Kit" McMahon.
