Clémence Lortet (17 September 1772 – 15 April 1835) was a French botanist and naturalist. In 1823 she became an associate of the Linnean Society of Paris, and with Giovanni Balbis and others, co-founded the Linnean Society of Lyon. A branch of the Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon was named for Lortet. Although she did not publish any contributions in her lifetime, several of her manuscripts are published.
Clémence Royer (21 April 1830 – 6 February 1902) was a self-taught French scholar who lectured and wrote on economics, philosophy, science and feminism. She is best known for her controversial 1862 French translation of Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species".

In 2018, 81 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Clemence who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 33, 422nd most common female first name for living U.S. citizens. (SSA data doesn't include diacritics, so I have omitted the accent mark over the first E. A person named Clémence in the U.S. would be tallied the same as Clemence without an accent.)

This name is quite pretty, sophisticated, and sounds much better than Clemency. However, I prefer the Spanish form Clemencia.
