Very beautiful. I like it for either gender honestly. Ciel is nice for a boy or girl, as well as Cielle for a girl. I love Ciela for a girl though.
My name is Kaila Ciel and I wished they would call me Ciel so they wouldn't mispronounce Kaila all the time.
I love this name! I didn't know it was a name for a while, but I knew it meant sky. To me, it is very feminine, and also, I once met a girl who had this name, and it fit her perfectly.
This is the first time I've searched my name and I think the meaning is so awesome!
Oh! I'm a lady by the way. I have been wondering about how to pronounce my name and thanks to this site, I found out I've been pronouncing it wrong for 24 years now.
Hey you guys, My name is Ciel and I am a guy (24 years old). And yes the name is pronounced See-Elle. It's pretty unique and it means the 'heavens' or 'sky'. My dad actually came up with it on his own without knowing it had a French meaning or what so ever. It is a masculine name.
I have only ever heard this name used for the character in Kuroshitsuji, and since I dislike him, I can't drop that association with the name. That said, the name definitely sounds more female than male and might look strange to anyone who was French-speaking if you chose this as a child's name.
Personally I think Ceil is better for a boy. I didn't even think it was for girls. In any case I think it should be unisex.
Like Soleil (also listed here as feminine), Ciel is a masculine noun in French. However, I think Ciel would be very weird on a male (although I prefer Sky on males... hmmm...). On a girl it's nice enough, but I would only use it as a middle name.
It's not a given name, and it looks like the word "seal".
Beautiful name. Looks somewhat masculine to me, and maybe spelling it Cielle would make it easier for anglophones to pronounce. But, I dislike changing the spelling of names.
Very pretty, I can't use it as I already have a daughter named Skye.
