I love how it sounds like "C.L". These are the initials of my father, so I am going to give my future daughter the middle name Ciel or Cielle.
Ciel Kirahoshi is one of the main characters from the anime "Kira Kira PreCure À La Mode". Her alter ego is Cure Parfait.
Very beautiful. I like it for either gender honestly. Ciel is nice for a boy or girl, as well as Cielle for a girl. I love Ciela for a girl though.
Ciel is a character from the Puyo Puyo franchise. She only appears in Puyo Puyo Quest, where she is a part of the Angel Series, but also appears as a playable character in Puyo Puyo eSports (known outside of Asia as Puyo Puyo Champions).
My name is Kaila Ciel and I wished they would call me Ciel so they wouldn't mispronounce Kaila all the time.
I love this name! I didn't know it was a name for a while, but I knew it meant sky. To me, it is very feminine, and also, I once met a girl who had this name, and it fit her perfectly.
This is the first time I've searched my name and I think the meaning is so awesome!
Oh! I'm a lady by the way. I have been wondering about how to pronounce my name and thanks to this site, I found out I've been pronouncing it wrong for 24 years now.
Hey you guys, My name is Ciel and I am a guy (24 years old). And yes the name is pronounced See-Elle. It's pretty unique and it means the 'heavens' or 'sky'. My dad actually came up with it on his own without knowing it had a French meaning or what so ever. It is a masculine name.
Awesome name. Really unique for a male.
Ciel Phantomhive (male), Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
Japanese: シエル ファントムハイヴ
Romanized: Shieru FantomuhaivuFavorite anime/manga ever.
I have only ever heard this name used for the character in Kuroshitsuji, and since I dislike him, I can't drop that association with the name. That said, the name definitely sounds more female than male and might look strange to anyone who was French-speaking if you chose this as a child's name.
The word is also associated to a color, sky blue, I think. It's beautiful either way.
This is a MALE word (le Ciel) and not used as a name in France at all.
Personally I think Ceil is better for a boy. I didn't even think it was for girls. In any case I think it should be unisex.
Like Soleil (also listed here as feminine), Ciel is a masculine noun in French. However, I think Ciel would be very weird on a male (although I prefer Sky on males... hmmm...). On a girl it's nice enough, but I would only use it as a middle name.
It's not a given name, and it looks like the word "seal".
There is a boy called Ciel Phantomhive in the manga/anime called Kuroshitsuji (黒執事 meaning "black butler"). He is the young head of the Phantomhive family and serves the queen with a demon butler (whom he has promised his soul) by his side.
Ciel is the protagonist of the manga Kuroshitsuji, but it's a BOY.
Ciel is the name of a character in the series Tsukihime by TYPEMOON.
Beautiful name. Looks somewhat masculine to me, and maybe spelling it Cielle would make it easier for anglophones to pronounce. But, I dislike changing the spelling of names.
Consider the many derivatives of the French word for "rainbow": Arc-en-Ciel (literally: "arc in the sky"). Arken is a pretty name. Also, a phonetic spelling of Ciel, like, Sielle, which anglophones will relate to a name like "Sierra" in their attempts to pronounce it, might be doing any child you give this name to a big favor!
Very pretty, I can't use it as I already have a daughter named Skye.
If it's pronounced like the French word, it would be "See-ELLE."
Along with sky, it also means "heaven" in French. And like all French words, the accent is on the last syllable.
