This version of Christen is invalid! Christen is a female name, not a male name. Stealing girl names from us for boys isn’t going to bring back Ashley or Lindsey for boys.

Though I have met a lot of guy Christens and no girls, I think it’s better for a girl than a boy.

I am a male whose birth name is Christen. I'm 59 years old. However, I'm known as Chris to family and friends. My heritage is Danish, but my father, who named me, wasn't aware at the time that my birth name had any Danish background. Up until I was in about 2nd grade, I was known as both Christen and Chris. By the time I was in second grade, Christen had started to be more associated as a girl's name and so I've gone by Chris ever since. In 2007, along with other family members, including my dad, we visited Denmark and stood in the graveyard of a small north central town in Denmark where my grandfather (my dad's dad) was raised. In that graveyard were many of my relatives including another male named Christen. I told my father that while we are in Denmark you can introduce me as your son Christen, which of course delighted him.My father chose to name me Christen on the account that at the time of my birth he was a Presbyterian pastor, and naming me Christopher was too Catholic... naming me Christian, as the son of a pastor, might cause me some childhood grief... and Cresten or Kresten... just didn't work for him. So he split the difference and named me Christen.

I've had this name for 26 years now, and it's always struck me as a girl's name, not a boy's name. Personally, I think it is a very nice name, simple and sharp. In my case, it's pronounced Kristen, although I'm sure other pronunciations have been used with the same spelling. I've never heard of a boy named Christen, nor have I ever regarded it as a masculine name in the slightest, though I agree that it certainly should be on the site as unisex (at the very least). While it may not be as "girly-sounding" as other feminine names, I would never consider it for a boy. Can't see this as a name. To me it's just a word meaning "to baptize".
Is it possible that this could be pronounced like Christain? Hayden Christensen spells his last name just like Christen, but its pronounced like Christain. So does it have to be said like Kristen?
This is definitely a girl's name. I might name a girl Christen, but NEVER would I name a boy this. Sorry guys named Christen, but I seriously think your name belongs on a girl.
Just because you know a girl named Christen does not make it a girl's name. It's the Danish form of Christian. Just because it sounds like Kristen does not make it a girl's name.
Actually JuliaF, I don't just KNOW a person, she's my best friend, and I trust that her parents (who I know very well) would not diliberately give her a boy's name. I understand that in other countries this is a boy's name, but here in America, it is a girl's name. I don't know where you live, though your profile says USA, but here it is a girl name. It should be listed under that, too. It SHOULD say "m&f" but it just says "m" which I just don't get.And it doesn't just SOUND like the name Kristen/Kristin, it is that name, just a different spelling. I don't even really like those spellings for a GIRL. Well, nor do I like any of those for a boy, but that's just me.So, um, yeah someone should really make that so it says m&f because it actually is a girl name, too.
Although this name is normally a female name my partner Christen would like it to be known that there are actually guys that have this name too.

My name is Christen, but my parents have called me Christy since I was born. I have found more than one source that states the name as spelled means "the breath of Christ". Also, in the dictionary as (KRIS-uhn) it means "to babtize".
