Meaning & History
Latinized form of the Greek name Χειρίσοφος (Cheirisophos) which possibly meant "cunning in his handicraft", derived from χείρ (cheir) meaning "hand" and σοφός (sophos) "skilled, clever". This was the name of a Spartan general who participated in Cyrus the Younger's failed march against his brother Artaxerxes II in 401 BC.
