I saw the movie Defiance and I found this name. I think that it is very sweet and also simple and it's meaning is good. Before I knew only its Arabic variant but this form is also beautiful.
Chaya is also a variation of the Hebrew name 'Chava', which also means 'life'. The names Eve or Eva are Anglicized versions of this name. The original 'Eve' was given this name ('Chava') since she was the 'mother of all life'.

A lot of younger Hasidic Jewish women are named Chaya or Chaya Mushka, mostly among Lubavitchers, since the wife of the last Rebbe was named Chaya Mushka. Http://forward.com/articles/147997/meet-Chaya-mushka-again-and-again/

This is a very pretty name! The only thing is some people might have trouble pronouncing it the way it was in The Devil's Arithmetic. I would recommend this name:)
