My name! I've always thought it was a nice name, I've gotten lots of compliments on it! Never met another Celeste irl, it's one of those names that are popular but not overused. It sounds nice on a little girl and on a woman. I am almost 15 and as of now the name has suited me every period of my life! Also, I've never been bullied for it, I have heard some people say it sounds like "molest", but literally nobody ever said that to me, it sounds quite stupid and it is VERY far from the name. If anyone wants to use this name for their daughter, go ahead! She'll get lots of compliments on it, just like I do!
Celeste sounds nice with a Spanish connotation (sky, celestial, stars, galaxies). However, in English, people will see nothing but Celeste. When I think in my American born mentality, I associate this name with nasty girls, dirty, boring, overly religious, sometimes mean. Those are the Celeste’s of America.
I'm uncertain whether Celeste would be a fitting name for a boy, but in case you decide to use it, Lester would serve as a suitable nickname.

One of the most beautiful names ever! I imagine a sky full of bright stars, a colorful galaxy or the blue sky on a summer day, I am in love with the color blue and would definitely use it on a daughter, I already have a 6-year-old Aurora and I think it would be perfect sisters called Aurora and Celeste. My grandmother is called Maria Celestina so I also would be honoring her! So sweet and beautiful!
Celeste is one of those names that everyone seems to love, but the sound of it just doesn’t appeal to me; I prefer Celia. Beautiful meaning nonetheless.
I love this name, on a boy or girl! It’s so pretty. The problem is, I’ve always pronounced it as seh-leh-STEE, so I’m just not used to the other pronunciation.
This is a beautiful name. However, it was pointed out to me that some people might think it sounds like "molest". Words do sometimes sound like other words, but in this case, I think the difference is vast enough.
My name is Celesta. I've never been bullied or made fun of because of my name. I've always loved my name and do not know of anyone I've ever met of having it. I'm from the US and have always been complemented of my name. I have long blonde curly hair and blue green eyes.
When I think about this name I imagine a woman with blonde long hair. This name make me think also about the sky. I think it's an easy name to pronounce. Here in Italy this name isn't very common.

I am totally enamored with Celeste. It might possibly be my favorite girl name in the entire world! And the fact that it's relatively uncommon adds to its beauty. Maybe I'm just drawn to space-themed names, but I love this name A LOT.
The name Celeste in my opinion is very pretty and feminine! I love how it reminds me of space! I love it and think it would be a perfect name for a girl.
This has to be one of my favorite names. It has a lovely meaning, it sounds very soft, and it's unique in a good way. I have worked with two Celestes at different times lol and one was an elderly woman while the other was a young lady in her 20s and I feel like the name works for all ages. The younger Celeste was also very kind and hardworking and it's a nice association. I like "Cel" as a nickname.

This is definitely a girl's name! Célestine and Céleste are both agreed to be as feminine as Celestia. For a boy, l like the masculine forms better. This is like Moana, only not as bad! You don’t recognize the unisex label for something very feminine and you comment about other stuff to do with the name. It’s not as bad as Moana because I do see a previous comment by someone else about the gender of the name. Yet, the user prefers it on a male. I love this name, but for a girl only.

Hello everyone! My name is Celeste and I'm from Argentina. I know some of you hate this name but it's beautiful. I do not find anything wrong and it has a beautiful meaning. I think you should accept this name. Also there are nice nicknames for Celeste like Cele, Celes, Tete, and Celestita (little Celeste).
This name Celeste is one of the most beautiful names. I really like the French pronunciation better. Other pronunciations from Spain, Greece would be fine by me too. The people that carry this name should be very proud and love themselves. Few people comment that they’ve come across “bitchy” Celeste’s. How can anyone think that it rhymes with “Molest” or “incest”? How disgraceful. Or even anything awful? People like you need to seek help to get over the “incest” and the “molest”-ations shame in your lives. Seek help!

Beautiful name! One day when I have children, if I have a girl I want to name her Celeste.
I absolutely love the name Celeste or Celestine (nickname Cece too, that's the BEST)! The second I heard the name, my impression was like wow pristine and sophisticated and beauty and like miracle baby or something. I don't know that many of them but when I come across one, it'll be like some really pretty French girl that I just follow on social media or something. But even without that, the name sounds so beautiful to me. I'm 19 weeks and 7 days pregnant, basically 20 weeks and we are having a girl. But my hubby does not like that name at all. Not even for a second. He does like the nickname Cece but he doesn't like Celeste or Celestine. At first he said it's like Frankenstein like the 'stein' part being like cele-'stine' and I just kept trying to tell him all the positive things about it and everything my co-workers are friends saying. There is a small percentage of people that don't like it or don't think anything of it but for the most part, people share the same opinion as I do. But the Frankenstein thing was when he FIRST heard me say the name and now he says it's like celestial like the stars. And even reminding him of stars, he still doesn't like it! It's sad because I'm so die hard on this name but he really hates it. I like a lot of French names I realized and he likes a lot of American common names:( Makes me so sad. Not sure that we're going to end up naming her Celeste or Celestine though :(I can say though, I ended up thinking about Celine. Because it's kind of like Celestine and he ended up saying yes for awhile! He said he liked that. And I was like wow really because I love Celestine and Celeste so much that I'm willing to meet in the middle with Celine. But now that it's been a couple weeks, he's completely changed his mind because people keep saying Celine Dion. It's like sure that comes to mind for people, but it's a beautiful name and a beautiful singer. But not sure what we're going to do. This is a tough one!
My name is Celeste and I absolutely love it. Combined with my middle name Marceline it's a really unique and lovely name. My dad loved French names which is why I was named as such and my brother is named Leon Sebastien. I have had people say it sounds like molest but I don't see that as a downside to the name and it's only been said occasionally. I tend to be called Lest or Lesty by close family and friends as that's what my brother said as a baby. I'm not a fan of naming your children with the same name as yourself so I wouldn't call my own child Celeste, but I still adore the name.
I was named Celeste with the inspiration of the song "Celestial Queen", by Blue Oyster Cult. I have been the target of a few bullies and a couple good-natured teasers, because it rhymes with molest. However, I get many more compliments. I swear some people overuse it just because they like it so much.
For those who are reminded of incest or molestation when they hear this name: this doesn't reflect on the name as much as the nature of your own psyche, which is far from celestial. Sounds like you might have sexual trauma or sexual shame that you haven't healed yet.

There is no way I would EVER use this name for a child of mine- character and pet included. Plus, Celeste just sounds unpleasing, harsh & ugly to the ears.

My grandma called my Aunt Celeste, then my mom named me Celeste but I was bullied because of my name. But I still love the color...
I'm naming a future daughter this if I have one for sure! Hope it doesn't get too popular! Incest, congest, molest, cess pool... Yeah, okay. All you haters make me laugh bro. 8D.

I think the name is absolutely beautiful! I named my little girl Celeste bree.
My name is Celeste. I like that I never had any classmates with the same name. However, I dislike this name for several reasons:1.) The word "Celeste" is hard to say.2.) Spanish speakers always pronounce my name incorrectly. They think it has 3 syllables instead of 2 (I live in southern California, so there are a lot of Spanish speakers).3.) I once had a teacher who often started a monologue by saying "So last time..." Every time he said "so last" I thought (for a second) that he was saying my name.4.) It sounds somewhat ugly, but that's just my opinion.

I'm the same person who posted those comments in late January 2015, and I want to add one more comment. I can't count how many people have accidentally called me Chelsea instead of Celeste! It's very annoying!

This is a correction of the comment I made on 1/27/2015. I did not say that Celeste is hard to say; I said that Celeste's (possessive) is hard to say.

Almonds, funny you should say Celeste Marie... that's my name. To be honest though, while I love the meaning, I'm not sure if I like the name or not. It just feels weird to me. That's why I started introducing myself as CJ once I hit college. Maybe it's because I'm too accustomed to it...
How anyone can like this name is beyond me. Celeste is ugly and pretenious and even rhymes with something... Think you can understand what I'm talking about. If not, replace the C with an M. Yeah... This name is just awful in my book. Not anything nice to say about it... Glad it isn't ridiculously popular.

It sounds like a pretty name that reminds me of heaven, but at the same time, I think of nicknames like molest and incest being used hurtfully or jokingly.

My 2 cents. My name is Celeste. When I was younger I hated my name. I was a child of the 80s and I would be teased constantly because of the frozen pizza, "Mama Celeste". Even as an adult occasionally someone will think they are real clever and bring it up, its real old. :) Thankfully I have never been compared to "molest", etc. One thing I get a lot is people think that I must be French because of my name. Apparently it is a very popular French name. As an adult I quite like my name now because it is unique and has a very nice meaning.
I've always hated this name. I immediately think of the words molest and incest. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I used to not care for this name, but now I love it. It is so beautiful, and as a physics student (and potential astrophysicist) I fancy the connections to 'celestial'.

What a beautiful, underused name. Ages well, too. I'm glad it's still in the top 1000. A cute nickname in my opinion would be Essie :)

I really like this name. It's very sweet. I can think of really good middle name combonations: Aimee Celeste, Anna Celeste, Celeste Marie, Marie Celeste, Anne Celeste.
This name has some very bad associations for me because every Celeste I've ever met was a total bitch. It's shame because the name itself is not so bad and the meaning is lovely.
Celeste is so pretty and so pleasant to say... Celeste. In fact, I think it's SO pretty that it doesn't matter if it rhymes with "molest"! And I actually asked my friend once if she thought of "molest" when she heard "Celeste" (believe me, my friend has a dirty mind), and she said:"No... it reminds me of celestial bodies."So if you love Celeste, don't let that hold you back!
The English pronunciation of the name "Celeste" unfortunately brings thought immediately to the word "Incest." Consequently or not-- it reflects my view on the name... hideous. It simply sounds quite unprofessional, a bit childish, and perhaps even geriatric. The Italian pronunciation, on the other hand, brightens the title to tolerability.
My name is Celeste and I love it! My whole life people have said what a beautiful name! So thank you to the people who like it. I get called Cece sometimes and think it's quite cute. To those who do not like it, especially a few of you, "Francesca" I've never heard anyone be so spiteful about a name! I'm sure you all have lovely plain names. "Francesca" what a vile, harsh and masculine sound it makes plus, Fran reminds me of fan... Fanny lol Get over yourselves. Call your daughter's Celeste- it is beautiful and under used. Xx.
Wow, Francesca, I've never heard anyone else say that. I think you might be the only one who thinks of incest when they hear the beautiful name Celeste.I just love this name, the sound of it, the way it looks in print, everything. I knew a girl named Celeste and it took me a while to get used to it, but now that I have, I like it a great deal.
I LOVE this name! Celeste is such a beautiful name. Although I prefer the Spanish pronunciation or the classical Greek (in my opinion! lol) which is cel-es-TEH or cel-es-TAY and the classical Greek would be cel-es-TEE. Lovely! :)
I love the name Celeste. I have people call me that in public places where I don't want anybody to know my real name. Celeste reminds me of the lady of the guy that got killed in Mystic River and it reminds me of a Jewish lady, and Italian lady. And it rhymes with molest. But overall it's a nice name.
