I love this name, it's gorgeous and so are Cedar trees. I see it as more masculine but it truly works for any gender.
Cedar trees.
It sounds very hippie and awesome.
Like the first commenter, I also watched Ever After High and learned of Cedar being a girl's name from Pinocchio's daughter, Cedar Wood. That's where I fell in love with it! I really want to use it for a future daughter! I can also see it on a boy but I really love where the world is going with all the uniqueness, creativity and freedom and Cedar for a girl is right there. I love it WAY more for a girl than on a boy!
The reason I think of this as a feminine name is because I used to watch this show called Ever After High. It was for young kids and it was about the children of fairy tale characters. Pinocchio’s daughter was called Cedar Wood. Mine does not seem to be a popular opinion, though!
I named my son Cedar. It feels masculine to me yet not overly so. He is currently a toddler and so far responses have been overwhelmingly positive. A few people seem somewhat surprised, but if I say “Cedar, like the tree” they get it right away and have no issues with spelling or pronunciation. I naturally fell into calling him “Seedy” as a nickname although not sure if that will stick when he gets older. Will be interesting to see what he thinks of the name himself as he gets older but so far from a parent perspective, no regrets!
Very unique. Would be good as a Lebanese name, because of the flag.
The name Cedar was given to 109 boys born in the US in 2015.
Why is this listed as a feminine name? If anything, it should be listed as unisex. [noted -ed]
To me, Cedar is a boy's name (like Cedric). I find it pleasant for both genders, though.
We named our puppy Cedar. It's a cute name for a dog or any pet, although that is my opinion. It's not very common for pets. We are from the Northwest so wanted a strong name associated with it. Red Cedar is very popular along the Washington Coast and is gorgeous. Our puppy is a hunting dog and he is very pretty and tough. We love it.
Everything about Cedar screams masculine: the "dar" ending, the hard pronunciation, the fact that it is a type of tree! However, after looking on this page I could see it both ways. Pretty out there for both genders but super cool.
I am VERY surprised to see this name labeled as solely feminine according to this page. Cedar to me is very boyish and masculine and is MUCH more suitable on a male. The name to me belongs to a male.
I love this name. I liked it for a boy, but met a girl with this name at the playground. It suited her. Now I like it for both.
My name is Cedar and I am a girl. It's weird seeing that people think it's a boy name. It seems unisex to me. I hated my name when I was a child because it was so different, but now I love its uniqueness. However it gets awkward when introducing myself because people think I am saying Caesar or Ciara and I have to say "Cedar like the tree or the amusement park."
I kind of like it, if it's pronounced "seh-DAR" and used on a male. I think it's much too masculine for a girl.
Cedar Walton is a famous jazz pianist (male).
This sounds corny as a name. I find it hilarious because I think of the Bible verse about Behemoth "stiffening his tail like a Cedar" (if you know what I mean).
I've only known boys with this name. Love this on a boy. Couldn't picture it on a girl. I'm especially fond of names beginning with 'C' that have the 'S' sound.
I may be wrong, but isn't Cedar a type of wood? That would be like naming your child Oak or Branch.
Yes, Cedar is a type of wood, but so are Willow, Rowan, Laurel, Juniper and Sequoia. And those are all people names too.
If you ever have a child and you name it this name, and there is a twin, Sequoia and Aspen are very good names, especially for people who like nature! Cedar, Aspen, and Sequoia all have to do with trees! :-)
I like this name because I have only met one guy named Cedar and, as the name sounds strong and sturdy to me, it seemed appropriate to me because he had those same qualities - physically and in his personality. I have to disagree though with the listing where it says that this name is feminine - a cedar tree is what comes to my mind - hardly a feminine picture to me!
