Meaning & History
Derived from Gaulish catu meaning "battle" combined with Gaulish rix meaning "king".This was the name of the war god of the Helvetii, a Gaulish tribe. He was also important for the Gaulish tribe of the Caturiges, since they named themselves after him. The god eventually became known as Mars Caturix in Gallo-Roman religion through identification with the Roman god Mars.
