Meaning & History

Anglicized form of Kapiton. Even though it is related, this name is not to be confused with Latin capitonis, which is the genitive of Latin capito meaning "big-headed" (see Capito).

The best known bearer of this name is the 4th-century saint (and hieromartyr) Capiton of Chersonesus (a.k.a. Cherson) in Crimea.
