I like Calanthe (pronounced cuh-LAN-thee). It combines two fashionable "elements": the Greek Cal-, used in the names Callista and Calliope, both quickly growing in popularity, and -the from names such as Xanthe and Evanthe. There's also the association with the Christmas orchid, which is a beautiful flower.
I love how it is a name of a flower but does not sound all prissy and too delicate. It would take someone who is either a flower lover or studies root words to know it even is a flower. Definitely a new favorite!
Cal is a common abbreviation for California. Some creative people could interpret Calanthe as Cal- with -anthe, meaning "California Flower." Thus, a child could be named this in honor of California. Any which way this name is beautiful.
