Meaning & History
Variant of Bonifacius, itself a variant of Bonifatius; the name originally meant "good fate" (from Latin bonum "good" and fatum "fate"), but folk law altered the meaning to "well-doer" or "doer of good deeds" (from Latin bonum and facere "to do"). Also compare Bonifaz. This was a middle name of Prince Johannes von Thurn und Taxis (1926-1990), a German banker, industrialist and socialite (full name Johannes Baptista de Jesus Maria Louis Miguel Friedrich Bonifazius Lamoral).
