Börje Salming (17 April 1951-24 November 2022) was a Swedish hockey player who played for seventeen seasons in the NHL as a defenceman, with sixteen of those seasons being with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the first European-born player to play in 1,000 NHL games during his career, which caused him to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.Salming was diagnosed with ALS in July 2022 and passed away at the age of 71 on 24 November 2022.
