Meaning & History
From a diminutive of French blonde meaning "fair-haired". This is the name of two characters in Madame d'Aulnoy's fairy tales: Belle-Etoile's mother in Princess Belle-Etoile (whose sisters are named Roussette and Brunette) and a minor character in The Imp Prince. It was later used by the Comtesse de Ségur for the protagonist of her fairy tale Blondine, Bonne-Biche, and Beau-Minon; this Blondine is a girl who becomes lost in an enchanted forest.
