Meaning & History
A nickname whose meaning is particular to the bearer. Notable namesakes include professional baseball player James Raleigh "Biz" Mackey (1897 -1965). Mackey's name was short for "business" because it was said of his opponents that he 'gave them the business'. In other words as a catcher, he kept up a running commentary to distract batters. In more recent years Biz Stone (1974-), co-founder of the social media site Twitter, bears the name based on a diminutive of his childhood pronunciation of his given name Christopher.
