Meaning & History
The first element of this name is either derived from the old Lithuanian verb birti meaning "to be born" as well as "to pour out" and "to spread, to scatter, to strew" or from the Lithuanian verb byrėti meaning "to crumble, to disintegrate, to fall down". The latter is perhaps in reference to disappearing snow (byrančiu sniegu, which literally means "crumbling snow") in weather that is too warm for snow to remain in. The second element of this name is either derived from Lithuanian mantus meaning "intelligent" (see Daumantas) or from Lithuanian manta meaning "property, estate" as well as "wealth, riches, fortune".
