Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Greek noun βασιλεύς (basileus) meaning "king" (see Basil 1), though technically both βασίλεια (basileia) meaning "queen, princess" and βασίλειος (basileios) meaning "royal, kingly" are also possible. The second element consists of the Greek noun κλέος (kleos) meaning "glory". As such, the meaning of this name is "glory of the king". However, "glory of the queen" and "royal glory" are also possible. In Greek literature, Basilokles is the name of one of the characters in Plutarch's essay De Pythiae oraculis. He is better known under the latinized form of his name, which is Basilocles.
