Original form of name: Barthl, meaning: beard (German). My ancestors were living in a city called Jászberény in Hungary, the family was noble. Beard is "szakáll" in Hungarian, therefore was Nagykállóy Szakállosy Barthl the complete "family name", and You can find the proof of what I'm writing here down in the cemetery of the city of Jaszbereny. One of my ancestors has changed the name "Barthl" to Bartal. His reason was that it's much easier for Hungarians to pronounce the name. A Hungarian knows, that our grammar doesn't like words with too many consonants crowded, but prefers words in which consonants are frequently separated by vowels.
