I like it! I’m a huge fan of the name Teresa (my name) and of my namesake, St. Teresa of Avila. I love this name! Definitely keeping this in mind for whenever I need a cute and uncommon name.

STUNNING NAME! This name is gorgeous. It has the sweetest meaning to me. It comes from the Latin word for bird "avis" so Avila means birdie. I pronounce it Ah-Vee-lah and the French pronunciation is also beautiful. It may be the original form of Avelina in old german. It is also a pet form of Aveline or Avelina in France. It is short, sounds classic and mysterious to my ear. It is really uncommon, but a beautiful name indeed. Avi is the nickname for Avila. Which I think is good considering it is a common nickname for Avelina, Ava, Avalon, Avril... But also could be confused with Abby for Abigal (Also a gorgeous name, to be honest) A little girl named Avila nicknamed Avi sounds cute to me.Avila is tied to me in a very special way. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela. There is a beautiful mountain named Avila. You will find streets, houses, parks, schools and more named Avila in Caracas. It is very familiar and makes sense. It takes me back to my childhood, going up to the mountain, climbing... also going to the very top by cable system to enjoy a cold adventure, eat some candies, skate... what a nice association. The mountain that saw me grow up... that mountain I saw through my window. I hope my daughter has this stunning name. As an artist in Caracas you are expected to create a painting of the Mt. It is no easy task! But it is a "cool thing" to have "an Avila" hanging in your wall. It is considered a precious thing. Imagine having "an Avila" at home if you are an artist!I think the only problem I have with this name is that it may be recognized as a surname in hispanic countries but plenty of people have names that happen to be surnames as well so it isn't that much of a big deal...Avila Manon is my favorite combo!
