Love the name, went so far to name a character of mine Augustus, but then remembered that the only feasible nickname you can get out of it is… Gus. Ugh.

Love it if not that Augustus (Octavian) Caesar ruined it...
There were no Polish kings called "Augustus". There were, however, three Polish kings called August. [noted -ed]

Augustus is a fine classical name that preserves the transcendent magnificence of Latin. Shame on the tools who fail to witness splendor of a better age.
Ugh, I hate this name. Augustus sounds so gross, like the word "disgusting." Augustus Disgusting. But "Gus" is a fine name. :)

I honestly like this name and want to name one of my boys Augustus. It is uncommon, unique, as well as noble and true. It also reminds me of the character from The Fault In Our Stars, a John Green novel.
Augustus "Gus" Waters (his family calls him Gus (occasionally Gussy), but his friends call him Augustus) is a character in John Green's young adult novel The Fault in Our Stars. He is Hazel's love interest and friends with Isaac.
Sir Augustus Wall Callcott (1779-1844) was an English painter.

Augustus is the name of the devil-may-care cowboy from Larry McMurtry's "Lonesome Dove." The character Augustus McCrae was brought to life by Robert Duvall in the TV miniseries.
An honorfic title give to people who were beloved by Rome or royalty. The female namesake is Augusta, with the exception of Augustus' daughter Julia, who was Augusti. One of the most famous bearers was Gaius Octavius Thurinus (Later Gaius Julius Caesar Octavius Thurinus, when adopted by Julius Caesar) who became Caesar Augustus when he was made emperor of Rome. By doing this he made his daughter Julia Caesaris "Julia Caesaris Augusti" (A namesake of his own adopted name). Other such barers are mainly members of his family, including his wife Livia Drusilla (Julia Augusta), his sister Octavia Minor and much later Julia Drusilla (Caligula's sister), Milonia Caesonia (Caligula's fourth and last wife), Agrippina the Younger (Claudius' fourth and last wife), Poppaea Sabina (Nero's second wife) and their daughter Claudia Augusta.
I think this is one of the most beautiful male names in the English language. My son is named Augustus (for my grandfather), and my uncle, one cousin and great-grandfather all had the name as well. It is a name of strength and venerability - I do believe that helps give a child a good start in life. Use it!
