Athos was one of the Gigantes, children of Gaia, who hurled a mountain at Zeus. Zeus knocked the mountain to the ground near Macedonia, and it became Mount Athos, or the "Holy Mountain."In "The Three Musketeers" by Père Alexandre Dumas, Athos is one of the titular characters, his name deriving from the village of Athos in the commune Athos-Aspis.
