Asha Parekh is an Indian actress, film director, and producer who appeared in many commercially successful films throughout her career. She was the highest paid actress of her time and was one of the most successful actresses of the 1960s and 1970s. She is considered one of the most influential actresses of all time in Hindi cinema. In 1992, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contribution to the field of cinema.
One of my cousins is called Asha and I quite like it. It's similar sounding to Ashley but much less heard of! I also think the meaning is really beautiful.
It's quite pretty and feminine, and I love the meaning. I see it as being the name of either a very feminine, kind woman, or a tomboy who goes by "Ash."
The spelling "Ascha" is a variant of this name. I love having the name, but it's pronounced as "A-sha" in Denmark rather than "Ah-sha" as they do in English speaking countries.
There is a song called "Brimful of Asha" by British rock band Cornershop, released in 1997 (reached #1 in the UK). The song was written about listening to Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle (b. 1933), who has sung over 12 000 songs in 18 languages for Bollywood films, and has received dozens of awards and honours.
I LOVE this name. I named my second daughter Asha in 2001. The name is very old and to me, sounds strong and independent. From the Sanskrit language meaning 'hope'.
