Latinization of a Celto-Germanic given name, of which the original form and meaning are uncertain.The first known bearer of this name is Ariovistus (1st century BC), the leader of the Germanic tribe of the Suebi and other allied Germanic peoples. He and his followers were settled in Roman Gaul for some time.Later bearers of the name include the American engineer and industrialist Ariovistus "Ario" Pardee (1810-1892) and his eldest child, Ariovistus "Ario" Pardee Jr. (1839-1901).
