Col. Archibald Gracie the 4th (1858-1912) was an American writer, historian, and real estate investor. He is best known for surviving the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 14th-15th 1912. I find this name elegant, old-fashioned and eccentric.
Archibald is a character in the "Mirror visitor" ("La passe-miroir") saga. He's an attractive and seducing man, even if he's poor. He's a funny character and helps Ophélie and Thorn, the main characters and heroes. The author of the saga, Christelle Dabos, has revealed that Archibald has seduced 489 women.

I am sorry, but the name Archibald is awful and I wouldn't dream of naming a future son this.I would say that the "bald" part of it is particularly unfortunate, especially if the bearer of the name does end up going bald. I also can't stand "Archie", the shortened form of it.

My friend thinks this name sounds like a really posh stuck up person, while I think it sounds like the name of a scary clown, like me, except I'm not scary, much!
I absolutely love this name. It's handsome, dignified and classic -- I don't find it pompous or too overdone whatsoever. Although, I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to Archibald. What a pity, perhaps I'll get over it one day, I mean the 'bald' part of Archibald I still love it. I just don't think I could use it.

I love this name! I think it very sad that it's not used by many today. And people who think it's pretentious? Please. It's not. It's a beautiful name, and should be used instead of ultra-common names like Jack or Michael (not like those are bad names).
