Derived from either the Greek noun ἀποδημία (apodemia) meaning "going/being abroad, journey abroad" or from the Greek adjective ἀπόδημος (apodemos) meaning "away from one's country, abroad".Both words are ultimately derived from the Greek preposition ἀπό (apo) meaning "from, away from" and the Greek noun δῆμος (demos) meaning "people" as well as "country, land".
