Meaning & History
Means "careful one". In Norse mythology Andvari was a dwarf who lived under a waterfall and could change himself into a fish at will. He had a pile of gold and a magical ring, Andvaranaut, which made him wealthy. Loki used a net stolen from Rán to capture him and steal his gold and ring. The character Alberich in Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen is based in part on Andvari.
