1. The world speaks hundreds of languages other than English.
2. Each name has a variety of versions depending on the country where it is used. Anas in the Arab world, Enes in Turkey and Slavic countries.
3. I had many American/British teachers, corresponded with many American/British people for work, no one ever pronounced my name like that vulgar expression. So unless you're a nasty kid who wants to pull a joke on his classmate, I don't think a mature person would pronounce this "Anas" like "an ass", especially not a native speaker.
4. If you still think foreign names should be pronounced according to your own languages rules, I don't know what you're doing here.
People, chill! Did you ever notice that all the commenters rambling about how names are "laughably unfortunate" always mention "English speaking countries?" Do they not realize that plenty of English words look obscene in other languages? I've heard that the name Randy sounds like the Hindi word for "s*x worker." It's not that hard to come to terms with the fact that not everybody has a Brooklyn accent. Statistically, the global number of English speakers is low, so don't take it for granted. Try to stop doing what we've all done at some point: read something phonetically and apply a literal meaning to it. The name Bich, for example, is prominent in many Asian languages, but has nothing to do with the vulgar English word. And does anyone read the tags when they click on these names? If they did, then, chances are, they would know the pronunciation, meaning, and language of origin, so there would be no reason to make fun of people who don't speak their language. The comments section of *any* website makes me feel physically sick, especially when it involves ideas that may not be familiar to English speakers. Just do your homework before you judge a name.
My name is Anas, yes Anas. It is an Arabic name meaning 'friendly'. It is a male name.
If you live in an English speaking country, this is possibly the most offensive, jaw dropping, an hilarious names EVER! I saw it and laughed for like five minutes straight.
An a$$?! I came across this name while surfing the site, and it actually made me shudder, and then laugh. If you plan on living in (or at least visiting) an English-speaking country, do NOT saddle your child with this. Actually, I think no one should be given an obscene expression as a name.MisquotedWarrior: yeah, I also had a great laugh over that!
Isn't it so hilarious when a name doesn't sound good in every language? Seriously though, not everyone speaks English, and the world does not revolve around the English language. It would be pretty ridiculous to tell someone not to name their kid Peter if they ever planned on visiting a French speaking country, because it looks like the French verb "to fart" spelled out, or Gary if they ever wanted to go to Japan because it sounds like their word for diarrhea.
This name looks a bit rude!
