Amashai was the name of a minor figure in the bible who was the son of Azareel and was appointed by Nehemiah to do work in the temple at Jerusalem. He is mentioned once in Nehemiah 11:13. He is also called Amashsai, however Amashai is used in the King James version.
The name allegedly means "gift of the people"
