This was my father‘s middle name… He hated it with a passion… He used a different middle name… I think it’s kind of cute but a little heavy to bear. Used in Irish Catholic circles….

Aloysius Pang (Chinese: 冯伟衷; pinyin: Féng Wěizhōng; 1990 – 2019) was a Singaporean actor managed under NoonTalk Media, best known for his involvement in multiple Mediacorp dramas.
For a native German speaker this name is forever linked to a comedy piece by Ludwig Thoma titled 'Der Münchner I'm Himmel' (A man from Munich in heaven). It was frequently played by German Radio stations. The main protagonist of the piece is a beer loving man from Munich who misses the beer in heaven. He is sent back to earth with a special order, but he ends up in the Hofbräuhaus drinking beer.
Maybe hard to pull off in modern days but I'm getting very strong Atticus Finch vibes form this name, an Aloysius could fit in a dusty old town. I'll keep it in mind for future older characters, but that's my only thought of uses for it.
Oh look it’s Aloysius O’Hare! Who found a way to sell air!

Aloysius is my 2nd middle name Patrich is my first middle name and Shawn my first... And yes I’m I am Irish is there any other nationalities a person could want to be? Funny thing though, I couldn’t spell Aloysius til I was 38... Never used it when I’d sign my name.
I thought this was such a great name. I named my dog Aloysius. At the time I found the name interesting, and that it was from a brave and noble warrior. My dog was abused as a pup so I thought if I gave him a strong name, then maybe he could live up to it and become a strong and brave pup.
Quite pretentious and difficult to pull off nowadays, but I still love the sound of it. Would make an unexpected middle name!

Aloysius Zimmerplots--on the episode of Arthur, "D.W.'s Library Card," he was that kid who had the uber long name and couldn't fit it on his card. I will never forget that kid.
Aloysius Viktor Stepinac (8 May 1898 – 10 February 1960) was a Croatian Catholic cardinal who was Archbishop of Zagreb from 1937 to 1960. Due to actions and accused collaborations with fascists during WWII, he was found guilty of war crimes and high treason. He sentenced to 16 years in prison; he only served 5 years. He was appointed cardinal in 1952. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1998.
Al-oh-wish-us is the pronunciation most often used in English, and the one that I have heard the most, since it is a name used by many of my "Great" relatives and the deacon at my parish (we call him Deacon Al.) The other pronunciation A-loy-see-us, as seen in the description of the name on this site, is a Dutch pronunciation.
Sounds like an old grandad to me and it's even more hideous than Albert and Arthur or even Ada and Agnes, the grandma names. Plus I find a name like Aloysius a bit too elaborate in both spelling and sounds (as opposed to the other four names). Lastly, this name may be confused somewhat with the title of the 1980s British sitcom 'Allo 'Allo.
In Peewee's Playhouse, there is a dog which Peewee finds and owns throughout one epsoide. He names it Aloysius. This is the first time I heard the name, so obviously, it's one of the first things I think of. But I still like it.
Let's not forget, the most lovable bearer of this name is Sesame Street's Aloysius Snuffleuppagus, known rather oddly, given his childlike personality, as Mr. Snuffleuppagus. And also affectionately called Snuffy by his pal, Big Bird.
Aloysius is my grandfather's middle name and he's always pronounced it al-o-wish-us. I don't know if that's an approved alterantive pronunciation. He may pronounce it that way because of his Irish accent.
