I like this name as it invokes a whole litany of Spanish kings who shared this name throughout the Iberian peninsula’s history. I also like the use of the nickname, “Alfie”. Overall, I am glad to say that this Hispanic treasure of a name is not overused in the Anglophone world. Cheers!

Afonso I - 1 King of Portugal (27 July 1139 till 6 December 1185) Afonso II - 3 King of Portugal Afonso III - 5 King of Portugal and first King of Algarves Afonso IV - 7 King of Portugal and Algarves Afonso V - 12 King of Portugal and Algarves Afonso VI - 22 King of Portugal and Algarves (15 November 1656 till 12 September 1683).
My middle name is Alfonso and I have always hated it. It was my great-grandfather's name, so that is nice, and am proud that it reflects my Spanish heritage, but I don't think Alfonso is a nice name at all.

It's a nice name, but whenever I hear it, I think of how the French version was used in the 19th century as a slang term for a pimp, which really doesn't help me to appreciate it.
