I originally though this name was pronounced 'AYE-ell" and I was like "ew, it sounds like stale food". Now I have checked the pronunciation, and I think it is cute, for a boy preferably.

As a term, 'ale' is often used as contraction of 'alennus', which means discount. (Which has been the origin of a rather lame joke: "Ale loves Rea." Rea means discount in Swedish.)
