Meaning & History
Derived from the surname of the noble family Alaimo, which emigrated from the kingdom of Aragon to the kingdom of Sicily in the 12th century. Theirs is a patronymic surname, and there are two possibilities for its etymology. The first is that it consists of the Spanish article al combined with the Germanic name Aimo or Haimo. The second possibility is that it is derived from a shortened form of Adalheim, such as Alhaim or Alheim. Whichever possibility applies, the surname is primarily Germanic either way.
