I have a relative with this name, I've always found it sweet and elegant in a way, mainly because of what the name means (intelligence).
This form of the name is used way more often among African Americans than among Arabs. It is well attested in the US: https://www.behindthename.com/top/beyond?name=Akilah&gender=&type=sampleIn fact, most bearers on LinkedIn and Forebears are from the US, not Arabic-speaking countries https://forebears.io/x/forenames/akilah, https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/people/?firstName=akilahTherefore, this name should probably have the usage "African American" added. [noted -ed]
A person in my school is named Akilah. Since I have heard that name I have always thought it sounded cool.
"Akeelah and the Bee" (2006) was about a young girl, Akeelah Anderson, persevering to become Scripp's National Spelling Bee winner. Akeelah was played by Keke Palmer.
I think it is a very beautiful name with a good strong meaning.
There is a male version of the name also, and is used throughout Arabic and Urdu-speaking countries. It can be spelt in various ways: Akeel, Akil, Akhil, Aqeel, etc.
