Meaning & History
This name comes from the root אחל ('hl), which has no known meaning. The root derives from אחלה ('ahlah), meaning "ah that...!". The majority belief is that the name means "O Would That!".There are two people named Ahlai in the Bible. The first, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 2:31, is the child of Sheshan. Some versions of the Bible translate the verse as Ahlai being the son of Sheshan, but 1 Chronicles 2:34 states that Sheshan has only daughters, meaning this Ahlai is most likely a woman. The second Ahlai, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 11:41, is the father of Zabad, one of David's warriors.
