Agostino Tassi was an Italian painter, mostly of landscapes and seascapes, who is now best known as the rapist of Artemisia Gentileschi. Because he aspired to nobility he modified the details of his early life. Though he was born in Perugia he claimed to have been born in Rome. His family name was Buonamici, but Agostino adopted the surname Tassi to give substance to his story that he was adopted by the Marchese Tassi. He was actually the son of a furrier named Domenico.
Agostino Chigi (1466-1520) was an Italian banker and merchant, one of the greatest patrons of the renaissance.
Agostino di Duccio (1418-1481) was a Florentine sculptor and architect.
Agostino Steffani was an Italian ecclesiastic, diplomat and composer.
Agostino Agazzari was an Italian composer and music theorist.
Agostino Carracci (or Caracci) was an Italian painter and printmaker. He was the brother of the more famous Annibale and cousin of Lodovico Carracci.
There are many nicer-sounding Italian names out there that are suited to the modern world far better than "Agostino".
