Beautiful, rare name that reminds me of Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. I don't know how popular it is in Wales, but I can certainly see this hitting the charts in the USA.

Pronounced Avon, with a quick 'a' like in 'apple' and a 'v' like in 'vine'.
No offense to all the Welsh historians out there, but Afon sounds much more like a modern creation than a historical Welsh name. And the fact that Behindthename claims that it's of recent origin just supports that image.
