Derived from Guanche *aḍəhuni meaning "strong man" or "proud man". It was borne by the mencey (leader) of Abona, Tenerife, at the time of the conquest carried out by the Crown of Castille. He was christened as Gaspar Hernández and became the servant of Spanish conqueror Alonso Fernández de Lugo.
