Saint Acindynus was martyred in Persia together with Saints Pegasus, Aphthonius, Elpidophorus, Anempodistus, and seven thousand other Christians during the time of King Shapur II (310-381). These saints belonged to the court of Shapur, and were secretly Christians. When the king began persecuting Christians, the pagans denounced them. Summoned to Shapur for questioning, the holy martyrs confessed their faith. The king then ordered them to be punished with lashes.Shapur subsequently decreed that Acindynus, Pegasus, Anempodistus, and Elpidophorus be beheaded, and that Christians not be allowed to bury their bodies.A considerable crowd accompanied these saints as they were led outside the city for execution. Then on Shapur's orders, the soldiers massacred all the Christians in the procession (about seven thousand), including Saint Elpidophorus.Acindynus, Pegasus, and Anempodistus were burned the next day.
