Ἀχαιμένης (Achaimenes), the Greek form of the Old Persian name
𐏃𐎧𐎠𐎶𐎴𐎡𐏁 (Haxamaniš), derived from Old Iranian *
haxa "friend, companion, ally" and *
manah "mind, intellect, thought". This was the name of the founder of the Achaemenid dynasty (7th century BC).
