The meaning is slightly off — this name means “my father is dew.” Not sure where ‘night’ comes from!
In Hebrew, av = father, the suffix “ee” is possessive (so avi = my father), and tal = dew. [noted -ed]

The meaning is a bit odd after you think about it, but it is beautiful and has a lovely history behind it.

The meaning "my father is the night dew" refers to G-d as the sustainer. Thus this names meaning is sometimes written as "G-d sustains me".
