Meaning & History

Means "servant of the Messiah", from Arabic عبد ال ('abd al) and المسح (masih) "messiah, Christ". It was borne by a ninth-century martyr who was executed for reverting to Christianity after having converted to Islam. It is typically used by Christian Arabs.
