Not a fan of Ágnes. I was born and raised in Hungary where Ágnes is a very popular name. Not so much anymore, but I still know a bunch of ladies with the name of Ágnes of all ages. Ágnes looks and sounds masculine and harsh, and it doesn’t flow well. The nicknames Ági and Ágica are hideous too. One positive thing about Ágnes is that it’s an internationally well known name, easy to spell and pronounce. That’s about it though. In a lot of countries Agnes is considered to be a very dated, ugly name.
Ágnes Kovács is a Hungarian swimmer who competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics. In 2000, she won the 200 m breaststroke and set the Hungary records in the 100 m and 200 m breaststrokes events (1:07.79 and 2:24.03). As of 2014, these records still stand.[1] She won a bronze medal in the 200 m breaststroke at the 1996 Olympics and placed fifth in 2004; in 2004 she also finished fourth in the 200 m individual medley event.
