Re: Aleydis
That name does look to me like a form of Adelaide (and aaaaall the other variants, hehe), though it's one I don't believe I've seen before. I would pronounce it as it's spelled...

It's in Girl With A Pearl Earring. I kind of lined it up with Alexis and Alexander/dra myself, though it could also be Adelaide it's related to...
A is for Amy who fell down the stairs, B is for Basil assaulted by bears, C is for Clara who wasted away, D is for Desmond thrown out of a sleigh... !!!!!!!!!! - Tobias, Jesse, Wyatt, Shane, Preston, Maverick, Rebel, Gibson, Shiloh, and Timber... & - Andy

I would be inclined to link it with Adelaide if it's a variation of a more common name, however I'd look first at a Scandinavian derivation, given the 'dis' ending (c/f Eydis, Vigdis, Tordis et al).

not -dis but -is ;-)Hi Chrisell,In this case, it is no 'dis'-ending but an 'is'-ending as it is a Latinized form of Adelheid or Aleid. There are many Scandinavian names with a 'dis'-ending which look quite similar, but which are not related to Aleydis, e.g. Adis, Agdis, Aldis, Alfdis, Alvdis, Ardis, Arndis, Asdis./ Satuhttp://www.nordicnames.de/
